Why Do PDF Pages End Up Sideways?

Scanned documents are the most common cause. When you scan a stack of pages, some inevitably go through the feeder sideways or upside down. The scanner records them exactly as they arrive, leaving you with a PDF where page 7 is rotated 90° and page 15 is upside down.

Phone-captured PDFs are another frequent source. Photos taken in landscape mode can be saved with incorrect orientation metadata, and when they are assembled into a PDF the pages display sideways.

How to Rotate PDF Pages — Step by Step

Step 1: Upload your PDF. Click the upload button or drag your file onto the page.

Step 2: Click to rotate. Each page is displayed as a visual thumbnail. Click any page to rotate it 90° clockwise. Click again to continue rotating. A badge shows the current rotation angle.

Step 3: Review and apply. Once every page looks correct, click “Apply Rotations.” You can also use “Reset All” to start over.

Step 4: Download. Your corrected PDF is ready for download. The original file quality is preserved exactly.

Real Use Cases

Fixing scanned documents: A 20-page contract where three pages went through the scanner sideways. Rotate just those three pages and download a clean document.

Correcting phone-captured PDFs: Photos of receipts or whiteboards that display in the wrong orientation when assembled into a PDF.

Tips

Check every page before applying. Scroll through all the thumbnails and verify each one. It is much faster to fix all pages in one pass than to re-upload and start over.

Use Reset All if you make mistakes. If you accidentally rotate pages that did not need it, click “Reset All” and start fresh rather than trying to undo each click individually.
